Most Frequently Asked Questions
Q- How do I Determine which length connector arm is needed.
A- You would need to measure the width of the op rod rail as shown in the pic above. NOTE: The photo above description is correct, However the white lines are a bit misleading. Please ensure that you take your measurement from the inside raceway wall. The white lines don't go in far enough in the photo.
Q- What is the Difference between the short and long Connector Arm.
A- Some later production receivers have a widened op rod rail that may require the
use of a shortened connector. Armscorp, Fulton, later Springfield Inc and early 762MM receivers may have the widened op rod rail and may require the use of the shortened connector arm vs. an extreme amount of fitting.
More Frequently Asked Questions
Q- I am unsure what the kit designators are, could you explain?
A- FC = Full connector arm
SC = Shortened Connector arm which is a substitution for when the op rod rail width is larger than 5/16".
BR = Bracket. Minus the connector arm.
WOS = with out switch. Means that the button is installed and switch is not included.
Q- Are they Legal?
A- Yes.
As they are attached to the stock and not the receiver, and can't be made to work, they are effectively cosmetic jewelry to the M-14. Please see information below concerning Washington State.
Q- Will the kit work in stock that has no selector cutout?
A- No, you must have a stock with a selector cutout as the kits sets in
the bottom of the cutout and is attached with 2 screws. Also, the connector arm both front and back needs to be setting on or inside the stock cutouts.
Q- Will the kits work in the USGI synthetic stock?
A- Yes, as the basic design of the stock is the same as the standard, wooden USGI stocks. In fact, the installion shown in the instructions is a USGI synthetic stock painted in cammie by Whamo-Camo.
Q- Will you create a kit from my parts?
A- Yes! Just send the appropriate parts (listed on the order form) along with payment for the kit desired. It is not necessary to send any parts that are not listed.
Q- How long does it usually take to get my kit once I place an order?
A- All kits are currently "IN STOCK" and ready to ship. Normally, kits are shipped within 2 - 3 business days of receipt of order/payment. However, due to Hawk's having to take care of his ailing mother 5 days a week and 300 miles away, it may be as long as 7-10 days, but this is not the norm.
Q- I have one of your FDS-kits that I purchased last year. If I purchase a "paddle" switch, can it be installed on that kit?
A- No, as the selector lock (button) was riveted when installed.
Q- Are the kits a "drop in" fit?
A- Only the ECO-kit is a "drop in" fit, but still needs to be attached with the mounting screws. The FDS type kits both need to be tweaked and installed properly to fit. There are installation instructions at the bottom of the dummy page for your convenience. These instructions are general and were graciously created by Tom Okamura, a good friend from
Hawaii.
Note: Due to minor differences in USGI M14 stocks, it may be necessary to shim the kit base in order to raise the kit up. An easy fix for this is to use the washers provided with the kit.
Q- Do the kits effect accuracy?
A- There have been NO reports of accuracy loss with the installation of the kits. I have had the FDS-kits on all of my rifles including my Springfield which I used for service rifle competition.
Q- Will the full dummy kits stop the ejected brass from putting nicks in the side of my stock?
A- It has been reported that after installing one of Hawk's kits that uses the full connector arm, the brass will hit the connector arm and not the stock during ejection.
Q- You used to have a rotating switch kit, but I don't see them on the site anymore. Do you still make them?
A- We have brought the rotating switch kit back in the form of our
brand new and improved "AMBI" kit.
Q- I just received one of your dummy kits and there are no instructions in the box. How can I get a copy?
A- There are no written instructions included in the packaging of dummy kits. However there are detailed installation instructions for your convenience. You can access them by clicking on the button at the bottom of the Kit page. Please remember, these instructions are copyrighted and are permitted for use in installation only and cannot be copied via any means including electronic, without Hawk's expressed written approval.
Q- Can the FDS kits be installed on a Sage EBR stock?
A- Yes! All of Hawk's Dummy kits may be installed on the Sage EBR stock. It is recommended that the holes for the screws be drilled and tapped for the use of machine screws. (not
included)
Q- I see kits being sold on the m14forum. Are they your's also?
A- No, A previous customer saw fit to duplicate our kit and has been selling them even though he had previously agreed not to do so. Hawk's are the "original " M14 Dummy Kits TM.
Q- I've installed my "AMBI" kit and there seems to be some interference with the follow through of the hammer. What can I do.
A- Once the kit is installed, without installing the action, place the trigger group in the stock liner with the hammer in the "home" position. While holding the trigger group in place, move the hammer backwards as if going to the "cocked" position. If no part of the trigger group makes contact with any part of the kit, then you should not need to shim the kit. If contact is made, then either use the washers (included) as shims or remove material from the kit with a dremmel tool, which ever works best.
Q- Item is sold out. Will you be getting it back in stock?
A- Unless otherwise marked, items may or may not be put back in stock based on availability. Please stop back often for updates.
Please note: Dummy kit sales to Washington State are prohibited!!!
